Title of work: Zagorsk Artist: M. Tugarinov Village: Fedoskino Year: 2010 Size: 6.75" x 4.5" x 2.5. The quintessential Russian scene of cathedrals in winter is painted in this fine work by Fedoskino artist M. Groups of people, tiny in comparison to the churches, walk between the structures on grounds covered with fresh white snow. Two sides of the cathedrals, which by artistic license depict those in the old town of Zagorsk, have an inlay of mother of pearl and shimmer in the iridescent light. Other churches shine from the application of radiant gold. The drawing is framed with a simple line ornament, and another modest ornament decorates the sides, which are painted in black. There is a small 1/4 inch scratch to the black lacquer on the left side, but it is pretty innocuous and doesn't affect the beauty of the work. The bottom in also black, and the interior is red.
The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge. Signed with the name of the artist, village and year. A very handsome box with a classic shape.
