The Lacquer Box, Palekh, 1957. The plot - Lukomorye (a copy of the famous box of Dmitry Butorin). Dimensions of the box 13 x 10 x 4,8 cm. He was born in 1910. He studied, and then worked in the Artel of Ancient Painting (Palekh Art Association, Palekh Art and Industrial Workshops).

He died in 1993, is buried in Palekh. Subjects of works: folklore, literature. Are kept in the most famous museums in Russia. Back in 1925, Dmitry Butorin wrote the first miniatures on the prologue entitled Greenwood Oak at Lukomorya. In the center of the miniature of Butorin, Pushkin himself is depicted near a green oak, where the "cat scientist" walks. And around the fabulous images: a hut on chicken legs, a mermaid on the branches, thirty beautiful knights, a sorcerer carrying a hero. In such a combination of a very specific image of the poet with fantastic fairy-tale characters, the originality of the conventions of decorative art was manifested. It is important to note that the fairy-tale fantasy in the miniature of Butorin is not upstaged, but given, like some kind of reality, in unity with an image more concrete. The ornamental generalization of individual plots around the image of the poet expresses the epic character of the image and is a new manifestation of the stigma composition principle, and plastic links are used between different motifs. In the miniature of Butorin, the poet himself becomes like one of the heroes of folklore, as the writer Vikhrev correctly noted. The image sparkles with a living fantasy of the artist. With its artistic structure, this miniature is close to folk paintings. It is characterized by the weighting of the center of the composition and the tight filling of the pictorial surface so that the spatial depth occurs in a black background that flows around patterned forms. The sharp ringing of colorful spots - yellow, green, red and blue, their decariate-planar interpretation is softened by the overall goldenness of the surface (it is created by jeweler cutting of forms with melted gold).
